During the YouTube livestream of this year’s annual Moms Speak the Truth fundraiser for Proof Alliance, individuals and families impacted by FASD shared stories of their experience, including this particularly powerful story from Sue, who, after adopting three children, became pregnant. Her doctor told her that there was no harm in drinking as usual during pregnancy, but as her son grew older, it became increasingly clear that he had some sort of developmental disability. Despite the insistence of family, educators, and even other doctors that her alcohol consumption had nothing to do with his difficulties, Sue had experience with FASD and eventually found her way to Proof Alliance, with whose guidance she made the connection between her own alcohol consumption and her son’s condition.
